Hilary Apeh, a 40-year-old man, a resident of Maryland Estate, Onitsha, has been arrested by operatives attached to 3-3 Police Station, Onitsha, for allegedly assaulting his niece.
It was gathered that the victim, Chioma Ogbu, 9-year-old, has severally suffered a physical assault from his uncle, leading to a lot of scars on her body.
A statement on Monday, June 15, 2020, by the state Police public relations officer, PPRO, Haruna Mohammed, said: “On the 14/6/2020 at about 10:00 am, police operatives attached to 3-3 Police Station Onitsha arrested one Hillary Apeh ‘m’ aged 40 years of Maryland Estates, 3-3 Onitsha.
“Suspect brutally assaulted his niece one Chioma Ogbu ‘f’ aged 9 years of the same address and inflicted several wounds on her body.
“Preliminary investigation further revealed that the suspect had on several occasions physically abused the victim who has scars all over her body.”
Mohammed said that the victim was taken to the hospital for treatment while the investigation is ongoing, after which suspect would be brought to book.
