KANO, Nigeria – A boat mishap at Kanwa Dam in the Madobi Local Government Area of Kano State resulted in the tragic death of five people, while six others survived the incident, according to the Kano State Fire Service.
The accident occurred on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 5:40 p.m., and was reported by Umar Faruk-Dalada.
Saminu Abdullahi, Public Relations Officer for the Kano State Fire Service, confirmed the incident in a telephone conversation with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He disclosed that 11 people were on the boat at the time, and six were rescued alive, while the remaining five were retrieved in an unconscious state and later pronounced dead.
The victims have been identified as Abdulrazak Nabara (40), Dalha Muktar-Atamma (40), Mustapha Ibrahim (45), Umar Isah (35), and Umar Idris (35). All were residents of Fagge in the Fagge Local Government Area of the state.
Abdullahi noted that an investigation into the cause of the boat mishap is underway, and a report will be made available as soon as the investigation is completed.
