Six military commanders have been arrested by the Nigerian military for fleeing in the face of battle with Boko Haram insurgents in Mararaba, Michika, Madagali, Mubi and Vimtim last week.
Asides the senior officers, an unnamed number of soldiers were detained for reportedly abandoning the communities, thereby making the insurgents have easy victory.
According to an anonymous military source, who spoke in Abuja on Sunday, November 2, 2014, one of the senior officers, a Lieutenant Colonel is currently receiving treatment at the MRS, Yola after he sustained injuries when the vehicle he was escaping with somersaulted several times.
He said: “Today (Sunday, November 2, 2014), the military authorities arrested five commanders around the Mubi axis of Adamawa State. The sixth is a Lt. Col. Some of those arrested were at Mararaba, Madagali, Michika and other locations. I think the military leaders are saying that the soldiers did not resist the Boko Haram when they invaded the place.”
The source further availed that the military authorities have began investigation into the activities of personnel as regards the capture of Adamawa State’s second largest town, Mubi and other locations, which includes Vimtim, the home town of Chief of Defence Staff, Alex Badeh.
