Centre For China Studies Opens In Abuja

The Centre for China Studies, a think-tank for intellectual works and discussions on China and its relations with Nigeria and Africa at large has been launched in Abuja.

The Centre, a private initiative was established to carry out the study of Chinese in a way that would arouse public interest especially in the field of common challenges of development between China and Africa.

Director of the Centre, Mr. Charles Onunaiju in his speech at the opening ceremony Tuesday March 24 said the centre is devoted exclusively to China watching and Africa’s engagement with her.

Furthermore, it is meant to promote Africa China traditional solidarity and its consolidation through the research of the institutional mechanism.

According to the Director, the Centre will drive a fact based research process, focus on the innovation of analytical tool as most of established beliefs about China will be challenged so as to reflect the actual facts about the Chinese institutions and processes.

The Centre, whose main currency is ideas and knowledge, is open to welcome varied and divergent ideas from all, so as to boost the existing pool of knowledge.

Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria Mr. Gu Xiaojie in a message congratulated Onunaiju on the inauguration of the Centre and commended the initiative while also noting the need for such research institute which can play an active role in enhancing mutual understanding and trust between China and Nigeria and the rest of Africa at large.

He wished the CSS every success in the future. Also, Director of the Chinese Cultural Centre, Mr. Yan Xiang Dong, who graced the occasion also said, “the Chinese Cultural Centre is ready to contribute its quota to the growth of the Centre.”
