Pandemonium As Suspected Suicide Victim Found Hanging From Tree In Lagos

Pandemonium has broken out as the lifeless remains of a man in his 30s was on Sunday, May 24, 2015 found dangling near a tree along 7Up/Governor Road in Alausa, Ikeja area of Lagos State.

Residents and passersby in the area avoided taking that side of the road, while motorists delayed momentarily to catch a glimpse of the lifeless man who is yet to be identified.

The general manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Femi Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed the incident.

He said, “A young man hanged himself to a tree by 7up/Governor Road, Alausa, Ikeja. Body recovered by LASEMA and handed to to the police at Alausa Police Station”.

Oke-Osanyintolu also disclosed that an ongoing investigation has been launched to unravel the mystery behind the incident.

According to Leadership, he appealed to the residents to pay attention to the happenings around them, saying if one of the residents or passersby had seen the man while attempting to commit suicide, perhaps, the tragedy would have been averted.

Speculations are high by eye witnesses that the man must have committed suicide out of frustration from the recent happenings in the country, fuel scarcity taking the lead.

They also expressed the shock they felt to have discovered the body of a stranger dangling down a tree in their neighbourhoood.

It was learnt that some police officers who came to evacuate the man’s corpse from the scene said they only found a tooth brush in his pocket.
