A drunk driver riding a Toyota Camry car had rammed into couple killing the duo in an accident which occurred at Ode Irele, Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Additionally, the couple’s three grand children and another old woman reportedly sustained varying degree of injuries following the accident while standing in front of their house located at Gbaleju area of the state.
It was learnt that the driver who was onhis way back from a burial ceremony lost control of his car bwhich led to the tragic accident.
Vanguard reports on Wednesday, December 3, 2014, stated that the deceased man before his death, was a notable chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the council.
He was reportedly relaxing in front of his house with his wife and grand children after a political meeting before the tragedy struck.
Following the incident, an angry mob went straight to the driver’s house and set it ablaze before some police officials went to the scene to calm the situation.
The corpses of the victims have been deposited at the General Hospital mortuary, while those injured are on admission at an undisclosed hospital.
When contacted to confirm the incident, one of the aides of the state Police Command Public Relations Officer, Mr. Wole Ogodo, said the incident was yet to be reported at the police headquarters by the Divisional Police Officer of Irele.
