How 18-Year-Old Girl Was Abducted And Raped For 21 Days By Family Friend

LAGOS – A 28-year-old man, Gbenga Asaye, was on Monday, March 10, 2014 arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court for allegedly abducting and raping an 18-year-old student of Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Ijanikin.

The State Criminal Investigation Department charged Asaye, who is a commercial driver for the incident that happened in Agege area of the state.

The alleged victim is reported to have left her mother’s shop on January 21, 2014 for school, but was short of money for her transportation. She then met Asaye, who is a  family friend, on the way and he promised to give her money and convey her to school in his vehicle.

She was however taken to Asaye’s house, where he allegedly kept and raped her over time.

The victim was said to have been in defendant’s house for 21 days that the sexual assault lasted. It was learnt that the victim did not escape because she could not muster the courage of telling her parents she had been deflowered.

The mother was said to have reported a case of missing person at the Pen Cinema Police Station, after which enquires about the whereabouts of the victim led to the arrest of Asaye and his subsequent arraignment.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge of abduction, with his lawyer telling the court that the case was not about abduction but “a case of boyfriend and girlfriend”.

The judge admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum and the matter was adjourned till March 31, 2014 for mention.
