Ebola: 2 Hospitalised In Russia After Returning From Nigeria

A resident of Russia and her child were hospitalized with symptoms of acute respiratory viral infection after returning from Nigeria, the minister of health of the Khabarovsk, Alexander Vitko said on Saturday, October 18, 2014.

He said, “A mother and a child at the age of one year and nine months came [to Komsomolsk-on-Amur in Russia’s far eastern Khabarovsk Territory] from Nigeria. The child had a fever. They were offered hospitalization, they took tests, including the Ebola virus test. The test results will be ready on Tuesday… doctors do not see the symptoms of the dangerous disease [Ebola], there are signs of acute respiratory viral infection.”

According to the minister, the two were placed in an infectious diseases hospital in an isolation ward with a separate entrance.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has said the current Ebola outbreak has claimed the lives of more than 4,500 people, mostly in West Africa
