EFCC Arrests Governor Alia’s Aide Over Alleged Sextortion, Cyber Bullying

MAKURDI, Nigeria — Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested Mkor Aondona, Special Adviser on Research and Planning to Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, over allegations of sextortion, cyber bullying, and blackmail.

In a statement released on Saturday, the EFCC confirmed that Aondona was taken into custody on June 20 following multiple complaints from female students who accused the official of sexually exploitative behaviour and the unauthorised circulation of explicit content.

“The petitioners alleged that Aondona was routinely recruiting slim and attractive girls for ushering jobs and insisted on sexual favours as a condition for selection,” the EFCC said.

According to investigators, the young women were reportedly coerced into sexual relations under the guise of employment opportunities, only to later discover that their encounters had been secretly recorded.

“Unknown to them, he had videos of every sexual act without their consent and was always threatening to leak the videos if they refused to continue having sex with him,” the commission stated.

The EFCC further alleged that Aondona was engaged in the distribution of explicit footage via various messaging platforms, with some of the videos said to have already been circulated.

The arrest follows an expanding crackdown by the EFCC on cyber-enabled crimes, including sextortion and blackmail, which the agency says disproportionately affect young people and women.

Authorities confirmed that Aondona remains in custody and will be formally charged in court.
