ABUJA, Nigeria — President Bola Tinubu has removed Wale Edun as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, alongside Umar Dangiwa, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, in a cabinet reshuffle announced on Tuesday, April 21, 2026.

The decision was conveyed in a memo issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.

According to the directive, Edun is to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, who has been appointed to take over as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Oyedele previously served as Minister of State for Finance.

In the Housing Ministry, Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named minister-designate, while Dangiwa has been instructed to hand over to the Minister of State in the ministry pending confirmation.

The memo directed that all transition processes be completed by the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

Akume said the reshuffle was intended to improve coordination within the government and enhance policy delivery.

“These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians, through the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said.

He added that the President acted within the authority granted under Sections 147 and 148 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The President thanked the outgoing ministers for their service and wished them well in future endeavours.

Akume said Tinubu also assured cabinet members that efforts to strengthen government performance would continue, noting that “the process of reinvigoration shall be continuous.”
