Police in the ex-Soviet republic of Georgia on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 disclosed that one man has been killed and another injured by a tiger that broke loose after severe flooding at a zoo.
A handful of animals including bears, wolves and a hippopotamuses escaped through Tbilisi on Sunday, June 14, 2015 following a torrential rainfall.
Officials of the Tbilisi zoo had previously said eight lions, seven tigers and at least two of its three jaguars which went missing after the flooding had been found dead and only one jaguar remained unaccounted for.
According to Associated Press, the Interior Ministry says police killed the tiger, which was hiding at an abandoned factory turned into a construction market when he attacked the men on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 near Heroes’ Square in the centre of the capital.
The ministry said, “Police special forces were deployed and are hunting down the animal.”
