Buhari’s Former Aide, Obono-Obla, Arraigned For Forgery And Fraud

Okoi Obono-Obla, a former Special Assistant on Prosecution to President Muhammadu Buhari, and two others were arraigned on Friday, January 22, 2021, before a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, in Apo, Abuja on a 10 count charge filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, ICPC.

Arraigned with Obono-Obla, was Chairman of the now disbanded Special Presidential Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property, SPIP, are Aliyu Ibrahim (Senior Special Assist, Special Duties – Protocol – to the Chairman of SPIP, and Daniel Omughele (Managing Director of ABR Global Petroleum Resources Ltd).

Obono-Obla was accused of forging his academic credentials, while the other were alleged to have, among others, diverted funds meant for the furnishing of the SPIP office.

They pleaded not guilty to the charge, following which Justice Olukayode Adeniyi granted each of them bail at N1 million with a surety, who must not be below the rank of Director in the service of either the Federal Government or the FCT.

Adeniyi adjourned till March 17 for the commencement of trial.
