FG Has Spent N34 Billion On Tertiary Institutions In Kano – VP Sambo

The Vice President, Mohammed Namadi Sambo, has said that the Federal Government, has so far expended over N34 billion on the provision of various developmental programmes and projects on higher institutions in Kano State.

According to a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Alhaji Umar Sani, Sambo spoke during an interactive session with members of the Bayero University Kano, BUK, community, when he visited to commission and lay the foundation for various projects.

He however, said that the money was spent through intervention programmes under the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFUND, adding that this was because, the government was conscious of the fact that education was the bedrock for any meaningful development in the society.

According to him, President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration’s Transformation Agenda, had impacted positively on the education sector in the country, and in Kano State in particular.

The Vice President said that within a ‘’ period 2010 to 2014 the total amount expended by TETFUND for both infrastructural and academic training in Kano State tertiary institutions is N34.109 billion,’’ out of the “total of N644 billion invested by TETFUND across the country within the period.”

Sambo, further said that the intervention affected both federal and state government owned institutions in the state, including BUK, Federal College of Education Kano, Police Academy, Wudil, Federal College of Education Technology, Bichi, Kano State University of Technology, North West University and Kano State Polytechnic, as well as Sa’adatu Rimi College of Eduction.

He further stated that the giant strides achieved by the administration were not limited to the education sector but also in the power, transport, security, anti-corruption drive, agriculture, industrialization as well as other socio-economic programmes.
