Lack Of Funding: NYSC Postpones Orientation Course For Nigerian Graduates

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has finally postponed the 2016 Batch A Stream 2 orientation course nationwide.

The orientation was billed to commence on Saturday, May 21, 2016 but the management of the scheme, Thursday, May 19, 2016 posted on the NYSC website apologising to prospective corps members that the orientation course has been postponed indefinitely.

The statement published in the website reads in part: “Attention: 2016 Batch ‘A’ Stream II Prospective Corps Members, NYSC management regrets to inform you that 2016 Batch ‘A’ Stream II Orientation course in all states including Adamawa, Borno and Yobe in stream I has been postponed due to logistic reasons. A new date will be communicated to you in due course. Please, accept our sincere apologies”.

It could be recalled that the director general, Brigadier General SZ Kazaure, had during a briefing at the senate, told the senate that the federal government had failed to release funds for the orientation course.

He said the NYSC authorities had written letters to the presidency, the ministries of youth and finance but all failed to respond to the demands of the NYSC authorities.

However, Kazaure reassured that the orientation course would hold, maintaining that the federal government had released funds for the three weeks programme.

But the recent development, the Director General said its postponement was a logistic challenge.
