Explosion Rocks Lagos Destroying Buildings And Vehicles

An explosion rocked Tapa street on Lagos Island on Friday, March 11, 2016, destroying residential buildings in the resultant fire.

Buildings affected included Andy Craft Vocational Centre and a customary court. At least 15 vehicles were completely razed in the inferno that was still being battled by the Lagos State Fire Service at about 8pm.

The fire was caused by a tanker loaded with 33,000 litres fuel. Tragedy struck after the tanker veered off its lane and rammed into Tapa street, with a deafening sound, spilling its content on the ground. Time was 6pm.

This was immediately followed by fire which first engulfed the training centre and thereafter spread to the court. Residents scampered in different directions for safety while motorists abandoned their vehicles.

It could however not be ascertained whether any life was lost as effort to contain the fire was still on as at time of writing this report. Director , Lagos State Fire Service, Rasaq Fadipe, said “Serious outbreak of fire involving a fully laden fuel tanker and houses at Tapa st. Lagos Island.

Four fire trucks are battling with it” Information at Saturday Vanguard disposal had it that the fire official were battling to prevent the fire from spreading to four schools in the vicinity.
