Fire Destroys Goods Worth Over N300 Million In Anambra

A fire outbreak had on Friday, January 16, 2015 razed down a two-storey building at No. 9 Nweje Lane in Odoakpu area of Onitsha, Anambra state.

Goods and property worth over N300 million were destroyed in the fire inferno which started at about 1:30 PM.

The affected  building and goods was reportedly owned by the Director of Gibson Interlink Nigeria Limited, Chief Gibson Chukwujindu, renowned for dealing on clothing and tailoring materials.

Confirming the incident, the Chief Operating Officer, Okpoko Fire Service Station,  Mr Ikechukwu Nzegwu, said the the entire building was razed in the inferno although the occupants all escaped unhurt.

He said, “We were able to save a three-storey building by its side, belonging to a widow, Mrs Theresa Ekwunife, which had already caught fire as well as other buildings in front of the burnt and collapsed one.’’

All efforts to reach the victim of the inferno proved abortive although one of his workers valued the lost goods and property at the sum of  N300 million.
