Race For Speaker: Gbajabiamila Confident In Spite Of Dogara/Jibrin Coalition

The chairman house committee on finance Abdulmumin Jibrin has withdrawn from the race for speaker of the house of representative to support Hon. Yakubu Dogara of Bauchi state.

Yakubu Dogara and Femi Gbajabiamila are now the frontline candidates for the speaker role. It would be recalled that Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin came close stepping down for Femi Gbajabiamila in other to be his deputy.

Both member planned a press conference to make the announcement two weeks ago but Hon Jubrin backed out at the last minute because of failed plans to become Gbajabiamila’s deputy.

Jibrin was full of praises for the Bauchi state lawmaker Hon. Yakubu Dogara ,  describing him as a honest, trustworthy, straightforward and disciplined contestant. He claimed that he decided to step down “In order to diffuse the prevailing tension, unite the House and ensure a smooth take-off of the Buhari administration, I hereby withdraw from the race for the Speakership of the 8th House of Representatives and consequently throw my weight behind the candidature of Dogara, one of our senior colleagues, a man of integrity, an astute legislator and an amiable gentle man,”

Meanwhile Gbajabiamila camp has said they are not moved by Jibrins action and that they are confident of victory.
