The Vice Chancellor of the Osun State University, UNIOSUN, Professor Bashir Okesina, has been relieved of his appointment by the institution’s Governing Council.
The appointment of Okesina and those of two other principal officers were terminated with immediate effect following allegation of financial mismanagement in the institution.
The state Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, who is a visitor to the University, had set up a visitation panel who probed the allegation, and then recommended the sack of the officers.
It was gathered that the termination of their appointments has been recommended to Governor Aregbesola and pends his approval.
However, UNIOSUN branch of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) opined that the council’s decision was too hasty, according to Leadership.
ASUU Chairman in the chapter, Dr. Abiona Oluseye and released a statement to that effect.
The statement said, “It is instructive to state that a visitation panel was constituted by the Governor of the State of Osun and the report submitted.
“Against the backdrop of the on-going, ASUU-UNIOSUN hereby calls for the immediate reversal of the decision pending the outcome of the white paper on the matter.’’
