The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase, has said that Ondo is among the top states in Nigeria that are blazing the trail in terms of delivering dividends of democracy and providing secure environment.

Arase made the revelation while on a courtesy call to Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko in Akure on Friday, February 12, 2016.

He lauded the Mimiko-led government for taking initiatives to provide security equipment for the Police in the state, which he described as very novel and what other states in the country should emulate.

“Thank you for what you did for Ondo State Police Command. I could remember when you assumed office about 7 years ago, you deployed the state asset to provide a lot of security equipment for the Police in the state, you bought Armored Personnel Carrier, vehicles and the likes, it was talk of the town and novel initiative when it comes to internal security management, thank you,” Arase said.

The IGP called on Governor Mimiko not to stop his support for Officers and men of the Ondo State Police Command in spite of the poor economy being experienced in the country.

Reacting, the Governor said the state is always willing to help the Police and other security agencies to ensure continued peace in the state, which according to him, is one of the greatest achievements of his administration.

He decried the nefarious action of Fulani Herdsmen in the state where farmers have demonstrated to his office on many occasions reporting that their farms have been destroyed by the group.

Mimiko called on the Federal Government to tackle the problem by building ranches where cattle can properly graze which will also afford the Herdsmen opportunity for better education and better living. He stressed that if not curbed now, it could become a big issue in the nearest future.
