LAGOS, Nigeria — The Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 questioned Pastor Chris Okafor, the founder of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, as part of an ongoing inquiry into allegations of sexual misconduct, abuse of authority and related claims made by several women, police officials said.
Pastor Okafor appeared at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Panti after previously failing to respond to a police summons.
Investigators said his decision to report followed increasing pressure and warnings about the consequences of disregarding a lawful invitation.
According to police sources, Pastor Okafor had earlier relied on the existence of a separate investigation at the Assistant Inspector General of Police Zone 2 Command in Onikan, involving the Nollywood actress Doris Ogalla.
Officers said he believed the zonal inquiry relieved him of the obligation to appear before other police units.
At the Panti facility, investigators questioned Pastor Okafor and recorded his statement.
He was not detained because there was no formal complaint before the Lagos State Police Command, officials said.
A senior police officer said attempts to reach alleged victims had so far been unsuccessful, despite assurances of protection and logistical support.
“With an active investigation already in progress at Zone 2 where there is a complainant and a suspect, the Lagos Command has decided to stand down temporarily to avoid duplication,” the officer said.
He added that the inquiry remained open and that police were prepared to receive any individual willing to come forward.
The Lagos police spokesperson confirmed that Pastor Okafor reported to the State Criminal Investigation Department but declined to comment further.
The police action follows weeks of public controversy after Ms. Ogalla accused the cleric of reneging on a promise of marriage.
Audio and video recordings linked to the allegations circulated widely online, prompting public debate and calls for accountability.
Pastor Okafor initially dismissed the claims as the work of detractors but later acknowledged some misconduct.
He apologised publicly to his congregation.
Following intense pressure, he announced a few days later that he was stepped aside from his role as senior pastor for one month.
On December 16, he married a new wife, Pearl.
Police authorities said the outcome of the matter would be determined by the evidence and the willingness of complainants to come forward, rather than public pressure or the status of those involved.
