Lassa Fever Kills 54-year-old Woman In Akwa Ibom

A 54-year-old woman has been reportedly died as a result of the Lassa Fever outbreak.

Making this known via a radio programme was Dominic Ukpong, the Akwa Ibom Commissioner for Health, who availed that two suspected cases of Lassa fever were reported in the state, adding that samples were sent to Irrua in Edo State for confirmation.

Speaking further, Ukpong said one of the samples returned negative, while the second was positive which led to the death of the woman. He went on to reveal that the first test returned negative and by the time the case was reported to the Federal Government during the national emergency meeting on health and the second test was conducted, the woman had already died.

He said: “As at last night, the second result came as positive and the patient has already died.”
