NAN – A 29-year-old businessman, Stephen Ikemu, who is standing trial on abduction charges, was on Tuesday remanded in prison custody by the FCT Area Court, Lugbe.

Ikemu, of Gudaba village, Kuje Area Council of the FCT, was ordered to be remanded in Kuje Prison till March 13, after the judge, Gambo Garba denied him bail.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Anigbo Paul told the court that one Miss Janet Aboh reported the matter at Lugbe Police Station on Jan.23.

Paul told the court that Ikemu had called the elder brother of the complainant, Emmanuel Aboh on phone and requested that they meet at the Federal Housing junction, Lugbe on Jan. 13.

He alleged that the accused called Emmanuel on the pretext that he wanted to buy 500 pieces of blocks.

“The accused made a confessional statement at the police station that he actually called the missing Emmanuel Aboh .

“He has refused to give a reasonable explanation as to the whereabouts of Emmanuel.

“Right now the Emmanuel in question is missing,’’ the prosecutor told the court

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section279 of the Penal Code.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused had pleaded not guilty to the offence and prayed the court to grant him bail.
