Militant Group Blows Up Pipeline In Delta

 A militant group of Niger-Delta youths, suspected to be the ‘Urhobo Gbagbako’, on Thursday, July 23, 2015 blew up gas pipelines in Ighwrenene community in Ughelli North local government area of the Delta State.

This marks the second time in four months that such an attack would be recorded.

According to The Cable,the affected pipeline belongs to the Nigeria Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), with officials saying the damage caused has the potential to lead to shortage of gas supply nationwide.

As at press time, NPDC and Delta Fire Service officials were having a torrid time putting out the fire due to the waterlogged location of the pipeline as their trucks and vans were stuck several kilometers away from where the explosion occurred.

An NPDC official who spoke anonymously availed thus: “We are making attempts to switch off supply to the line, but till that happens, we are helpless and can’t gain access to the point of explosion owing to the flooded terrain of the road

“This one of the major NPDC’s pipelines. This havoc would be felt nationwide because of shortage of gas supply”
