The Minister of petroleum Diezani Alison-Madueke has been tipped for the post of secretary general at Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) as she has been nominated by the Nigerian Government for the position.
Alison-Madueke who has stood in that capacity of the alternate President for the organization since January 1, 2014 after the incumbent Abdalla Salem el-Badri, was appointed Iraq oil minister.
The nomination of Alison follows the Saudi Arabia and Iran failing to agree who takes over the position according to the Wall street journal
The Nigerian minister iscurrently in Vienna, Austria to attend the OPEC meeting.
If appointed, she will be the first woman to head the key oil producers’ group.
