Kalu Ikeagwu, a Nollywood actor, was on Monday, September 26, 2016 was arrested by the Nigerian police in what TheCable describes as “an unfortunate situation”.
According to reports, Ikeagwu was arrested by security agents at the gate of his house in Ogba, Lagos, over an investigation into an abduction which took place in Abuja.
An eyewitness, a neighbour of the Nollywood actor, told the press that an individual referred to as Ikeagwu’s “younger brother”, bought a phone belonging to the victim of the said abduction.
This resulted in the visit of officers from Area G police command, said the neighbor who identified himself as Adeboye.
“We heard reports on the social media that Kalu has been arrested for armed robbery. He’s not an armed robber, and he was not arrested for armed robbery”, the neigbhour said.
“The policemen came, we thought they were abductors but they were the police. They were investigating a phone that his younger brother bought that happened to belong to somebody who was abducted in Abuja.”
“They trailed the phone. Now the younger brother has been summoned to come, bring the phone, and bring the receipt such that they can go to where they bought the phone.”
He also indicated that Ikeagwu returned home from the police station at night and that the area commander visited him this morning.
“They carried him away to the station but he came back home yesterday in the night. The area commander from Area G was here this morning.
“Myself and the Area Commander, we went to see him this morning. He’s well, he’s alive, and he’s alright.”
The telephone calls made to Olorunfemi Shem, an assistant superintendent and spokesperson of zone 2 police command, were unanswered.
