The capital city of Ondo State, Akure is near boiling point Friday morning as residents took to the street to protest the removal of the name of the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Eyitayo Jegede from the final list of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Late on Thursday, October 27, 2016, INEC released its final list for the governorship poll of November 26 with the name of controversial billionaire businessman, Jimoh Ibrahim as the candidate of the PDP.

As at the time of filing this report major highways in the capital city and other parts of Ondo have been blocked by protesters burning tires, activities in the capital city is at lull as residents stay indoor over fear that the protest might soon turn awry.

It was reliably gathered that plan by Jimoh Ibrahim to visit the state today have been shelved for fear of not being welcomed.

According to the list published on the electoral body’s website, Ibrahim’s name is included on the list based on a court order. Omotayo Alabi was named as his running mate.

Controversial justice of the federal high court in Abuja, Okon Abang issued a court order for the name of the PDP candidate, Eyitayo Jegede, a senior advocate of Nigeria, to be replaced with Ibrahim’s.

The PDP has appealed the judgement and the Appeal Court has fixed Friday, October 28, 2016 to hear the case.
