ABUJA, Nigeria – The Police Service Commission, PSC, has announced the dismissal of three senior Police officers over cases of misconduct and abuse of office.
Additionally, nine officers have been demoted, including a Commissioner of Police, according to a statement released on Friday, July 7, 2023, by PSC spokesman Ikechukwu Ani.
These decisions were made during the 21st Plenary Meeting of the PSC, which began on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at its Corporate Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.
The meeting was presided over by Justice Clara Bata Ogunbiyi, a retired Justice of the Supreme Court, who stood in for the Commission’s Chairman, Solomon Arase.
While the Commissioner of Police affected by the demotion was not named, the statement relayed that Arase had virtually welcomed members to the Plenary and lauded their diligent attention to disciplinary matters, affirming his commitment to not impede the career progression of any officer.
During the meeting, the Commission also approved the compulsory retirement of an Assistant Commissioner, directing a refund of all entitlements wrongly paid to him.
In other decisions, the Commission approved a posthumous promotion of late Inspector Ifeanyi Oroke to the rank of ASP 11 for acts of gallantry and reinstated dismissed Inspector Augustina Oko, with her reinstatement effective from the date of her dismissal.
The PSC also sanctioned 16 officers with severe reprimand, while 18 others received reprimand.
Letters of warning were issued to two additional officers.
Furthermore, the Commission approved an appeal for an adjustment in the date of promotion to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police for ACP Woke Iheanyi Kingsley, as well as the reinstatement of CSP Anaele Samuel Onuoha, in compliance with a court judgment.
The 21st Plenary Meeting of the Commission is set to reconvene on Tuesday, July 11, 2023.
