Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, in a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, on Monday, May 18,2015, faulted the claim by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, that he was providing cover for armed gangs to operate in the state.
Falana had in a written piece on Sunday, May 17, 2015 , blamed the governor for the increasing wave of kidnappings and violence in the state.
But Governor Fayose, dismissed the Senior Advocate’s comments as “ridiculous and nonsensical,.
He accused Barrister Falana of political bias when he questioned why Falana would always keep silent whenever the All Progressives Congress-controlled states were involved in contentious issues.
He asked, “Is this not hypocrisy? And Falana did not find it important to ask those APC-controlled states what they have done with their workers’ salaries if truly he is a human rights activist as he claims to be.
“Hypocrisy has made Falana not to say a word on the collapse of the judiciary and the legislative arms of government in some APC controlled states. Or is the judiciary in Rivers State working? And has Falana said a single word on the collapse of the judiciary in Rivers State?”
He said, “Falana should be ignored because he is fond of beating about the bush and his utterances are always dictated by the percentage of stomach infrastructure from his paymasters.
“I have never and will never provide official cover for armed gangs. It is only a governor or leader that is not popular or loved by his people that would adopt such unconventional means to rule.”
