Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Breaks Silence After Gunmen Attack on Family Home

ABUJA, Nigeria – Suspended Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, on Thursday, April 17, 2025, publicly addressed the gunmen attack on her family residence in Obeiba Community, Okehi Local Government Area, Kogi State.

The attack occurred on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, when a group of assailants targeted the senator’s family home, believing she was present at the time.

In her first statement on the matter, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan clarified that the gunmen assumed she was in town, leading them to launch the attack.

However, security operatives and local community members responded swiftly to the situation and managed to chase the assailants away.

Thankfully, no one was injured during the attack.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan emphasized that a report on the incident was promptly filed with the local police area command.

She described the attack as a “calculated attempt to silence her,” and called on the Inspector-General of Police to reinstate her security details for her protection, given the serious nature of the assault.

A statement released by her media team strongly condemned the attack, urging the public to remain calm and not allow violence and intimidation to deter her commitment to truth and service to her constituents.

“Her dedication to speak the truth and represent her constituents should not be met with violence and intimidation,” the statement read.

The Kogi State Police Command confirmed the attack, with State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Miller Dantawaye, issuing a statement on Thursday, April 17, 2025.

He confirmed that the Okehi LGA Divisional Police Officer had fully briefed the command on the attack, and investigations were underway.

“We will deal with those criminal elements that carried out the attack,” the CP assured.
