A statement credited to the Kogi State Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is trending on the social media to the effect that the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Abubakar Audu, will refund N11 billion stolen from the treasury if elected. It is not a bad idea at all.

For me, those castigating the man have no business doing so. Audu is popular, no doubt. He also has the Kogi State APC machinery in his hands. Those are the two major reasons he won the the primary.

My position remains that President Muhammadu Buhari missed it big time with his often touted anti-corruption war.

Nigerians, especially at the grassroot level and members of political parties love the corrupt. Without a sizable war-chest, you cannot win any election here. Of course, it is not money for media or organisation. It is freebis, which an impoverished people want.

I do not have a clue about a solution to Nigeria’s deep-rooted problems. But it is surely a long way to go for those saddled with the responsibility of restoring a sane clime here.
