Paul said that they were removed from Christ by believing in a false gospel. Christ is not just a Person, He is a place. No wonder Jesus said that we should abide in Him: to abide in Him means to dwell in Him.
The responsibility of remaining in Christ is ours. You don’t just come to Jesus, you’ve got to stay in Him; and you do that by holding on to the true gospel. The purpose of deception is to take us away from the Lord; but we must be determined to remain in Him.
Ephesians 4:14 says, “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.” Don’t be quick to swallow every doctrine you hear, and don’t be fast to join any group or association just because they seem to be of God: make sure that they are preaching the truth, and you must also keep growing in knowledge until you are established. Amen.
