Sacred Pause: Remember Those Who Stood With You in the Storm

Must read

A man once prepared a great feast and instructed his daughter to invite their relatives, friends, and neighbours.

Instead of announcing the celebration, she went into the street crying that their house was on fire.

Only a handful of people came to help. When they arrived, they discovered a feast waiting for them.

The father was puzzled. Most of his friends and relatives were absent, while several strangers had gathered around his table.

His daughter explained that those who came had not expected food or entertainment. They had responded because they believed the family was in trouble.

There is a profound lesson in this simple story: adversity often reveals what prosperity conceals.

When life is going well, it is easy to attract attention, admiration, and companionship. But when difficulties arise, we discover the difference between those who enjoy our company and those who genuinely care about our welfare.

The Bible reminds us in Proverbs 17:17 that true friendship endures through changing circumstances.

“A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.” – Proverbs 17:17

Loyalty is demonstrated not through words, but through sacrifice, compassion, and presence.

However, we must also exercise grace. Not everyone who is absent during our struggles has abandoned us. Some may be fighting battles of their own.

The lesson is not to become bitter or unforgiving. It is to recognise genuine love, cherish faithful relationships, and learn to be that kind of friend to others.

When God brings you into your season of celebration, never forget those who stood beside you when there was nothing to celebrate.

And when someone else is passing through the fire, be among those who show up.

For true friendship is not measured by who sits at your table when the feast is ready, but by who answers when you cry for help.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, grant me the wisdom to recognise genuine friendships, the grace to honour those who stand with me, and the compassion to remain faithful to others in their seasons of difficulty. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
