Members of the Corinthian Church were zealous for spiritual gifts, and Paul encouraged them to desire the gift of prophecy more than any other gift. According to Apostle Paul, everyone of them could prophesy. That means that everyone of us can prophesy!
We have substituted fore-telling with forth-telling, and revelation with declaration. Apostle Paul was obviously not talking about forth-telling and declaration, he spoke about prophecy as the revelation of the secrets of the heart. Just imagine everyone of us prophesying; we would turn this world upside down.
The church today is running after prophets, not realizing that God’s perfect will is that everyone of us should prophesy! We are idolizing the prophets instead of desiring the gift. If we would seek to prophesy just as we speak in other tongues, God has no problem with giving everyone the ability.
Moses said to Joshua, “Are you zealous for my sake? Oh, that all the Lord’s people were prophets and that the Lord would put His Spirit upon them!” Numbers 11:29. Even today, God desires to anoint everyone one of us with His Spirit. Acts 2:17 says, “And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, your old men shall dream dreams.” Hallelujah!
