According to legal papers, 25-year-old Taylor’s lyrics are stolen from a song called Haters Gone Hate by Jesse Braham.
The song was nominated for a Grammy after it was released in 2014 – a year after Jesse released his track.
Braham’s lyrics go: “Haters gone hater, playas gone play. Watch out for them fakers, they’ll fake you everyday.”
As we all know, TayTay sings: “‘Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play/And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate/Baby, I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake/I shake it off, I shake it off.”
Braham is claiming his lyrics were stolen and wants $42 million for the alleged theft.
It isn’t great news for TayTay, who’s already involved in a case against a former Denver radio host, who sued her after he said he lost his job because of false accusations that he inappropriately touched her during a photo session, who, according to People, Swift is now countersuing.
But in the case of the lyrics, it may be over before it begins as Perez Hilton reports artists can not sue over the use of such a short phrase.
A legal source told Perez: “Mr. Braham, who is representing himself, cannot claim copyright protection for the phrases ‘haters gone hate’ and ‘playas gone play’ because the Copyright Act does not protect short phrases and these phrases are not original to him.
“In addition, and most damning to Mr. Braham’s claim, the two songs have absolutely nothing in common.”
Surely that’s that then?
