NAN – Two brothers – Rep Gideon Gwani and Chief Charles Bonat – are contesting for the Kaura Federal Constituency seat.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Kaura Federal Constituency in Kaduna State.

The contestants are both princes of the Kagoro Chiefdom in Kaura Local Government. Bonat had contested against Gwani’s father, Jehu, for the first class traditional stool in 2006, after the death of Chief Gwamna Awan.

Gwani, of the PDP, defeated four others, including Mr. Kish Adamu, a former Kaduna Commissioner for Justice, and Mr. Yahaya Dadai, a former Sole Administrator of the Kagoro Development Area, to pick the PDP ticket on Dec. 6.

Bonat, on his part, was the APC’s sole aspirant for the slot.

While Gwani has expressed confidence that the people would give him a fresh mandate, Bonat insists that there should be change.

Gwani told NAN in Kaura on Monday that he had achieved much as a House of Representatives member, especially in the area of water supply, schools renovation, youth empowerment and healthcare.

“I was able to sink boreholes for 80 communities; that has minimised consumption of bad water largely responsible for most of the health challenges among my largely rural constituents,’’ he said.

However, Bonat said that if elected, he would represent the constituency better and improve the wellbeing of the constituents. Meanwhile, Chief Dauda Peter, the Waziri of Kagoro, told NAN that there was nothing to worry about the contest.

“The two of them are brothers; so, whoever wins is a son of the palace.

“The chiefdom has no official candidate; they are both our children, and we can say it is a family affair.

“All we have asked of them is peaceful conduct of campaigns and the election.

“We have also asked them to ensure that their supporters are orderly; we do not condone thugs here.

“Kagoro has never been known for violence; the quest for office by two brothers can never change that,’’ Peter said.
