In a mouth-opening judgement, a village head in the Jharkhand area of India ordered the rape of a 14-year old girl, reports say.
The judgement, which has caused popular outcry in several quarters was said to have been dished out as a form of revenge for an attempted rape by the teenagers brother on the village head’s wife the previous day.
After giving the judgement, the men reportedly took the girl to a nearby forest and raped her.
As news of the “rape-for-rape” judgement spread, police subsequently picked up the village head and the two attackers. Reports also have it that the mother of the victim vehemently pleaded for a reversal of the judgement to no avail.
