The police in Asaba, Delta State, have arrested a 26-year-old businessman, identified as John (surname withheld) who lives in Ochele-Umuezei Quarters, for allegedly breaking into one Mrs. Mary Okoh’s apartment in the same area, Leadership reports.
It was learnt from an eye witness that the suspect allegedly used a sledged hammer to break into the victim’s house at about 4:15AM.
After gaining access into the house, he forcibly dispossessed the woman of her mobile phone and her native wallet popularly called ‘mama’s.
During his escape bid, the woman raised an alarm which attracted the attention of neighbours who engaged him in a hot chase until they caught him.
While confirming the incident, the state police public relations officer, DSP Celestina Kalu, revealed that about six other phones and various recharge cards were recovered from the suspect by the youths who also retrieved the woman’s money from him.
