An 11-year-old girl has been charged with murder after beating a 2-month-old baby who was staying overnight with her family to assist the baby’s mother on Friday, February 6, 2015.
According to Cleveland police reports, the 11-year-old, her mother and the baby girl, Zuri Whitehead, were on a couch downstairs when the mother fell asleep. When she woke up a couple of minutes later, she saw her daughter holding the baby who at this point was badly injured and bleeding profusely.
The 11-year-old’s mother quickly dialed 911 and the baby identified as Zuri was flown to a children’s trauma center in Cleveland, where she died a few minutes after getting there.
A county Juvenile court have decided that the killer cannot be tried as an adult because of her age. However, she will be sentenced to a Youth Services facility in the state until she turns 21.
