It appears the impeachment notice served on Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State and his deputy, James Ngillari, might have taken a new twist with speculations that 13 out of the 19 lawmakers of the 25-member state House of Assembly who signed it may have backed out.
A source who preferred not to be named revealed that the impeachment notice may have suffered a major setback following the intervention of some prominent Northern leaders, including traditional rulers, who brokered peace between the lawmakers and the governor on Sunday, where the 13 of the lawmakers were said to have agreed to back out.
Indeed, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former EFCC Chairman Nuhu Ribadu were also said to have waded in, urging their loyalists among the lawmakers to drop the impeachment notice.
The ensuing political horse-trading which led to the prevailing position was said to have shifted from Yola to Abuja, where the governor and other political actors in the state met to resolve their differences.
However, the Director of Press to the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Comrade Solomon Kumangar, expressed doubts on the back out of the 13 lawmakers, saying that it can only emanate from mischief makers.
“I am not aware that any member has backed out from the move but you should ask those making up the story to mention the names of those who backed out. It is apparent that people are ignorant about House resolutions, because whenever resolutions are passed, no one can infringe on them as they are irreversible,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the All Progressives Party (APC) in Adamawa State, Alhaji Mijinyawa Umaru Kugama, has advised President Goodluck Jonathan not to allow his reputation to be tainted by some political elite within the state’s PDP who are claiming that the Presidency is backing them in the ongoing plot to sack Governor Nyako and his deputy.
