The Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, yesterday, reacted to protests by some Nigerians on the recent sack of 13 vice chancellors by the Federal Government, saying the decision would not be reversed.

The minister, who stated this while addressing journalists at the flag-off of the 2015/2016 annual school census in Abuja, said though the ministry had received some petitions and was looking at them, the Federal Government would not reverse its earlier decision about the sacked vice chancellors.

According to Adamu, “the Federal Government would not reverse its decision because somebody has criticized them.”

On census, Malam Adamu said: “In order to facilitate the collection of education data in Nigeria, the Federal Ministry of Education has concluded arrangement to host the NEMIS software on the internet for real-time online data entry and processing.”

According to him, this will further ensure uniformity in data reporting so that end-users will have timely reports for decision-making and research.

“I am optimistic that beginning from this year, Nigeria’s education data, at the basic and secondary school levels, will be cleaner, more accurate, more accessible and up to date,” he said.
