The self acclaimed godfather of Anambra State politics and a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees; Chief Chris Uba, has joined the race for the Anambra South Senatorial district in the 2015 general elections.

Uba, who spoke to THISDAY yesterday at his guest house in Awka, shortly after declaring his ambition, said he had since bought the expression of interest and nomination forms of the party and that his decision to vie for the position was predicated on the desire to offer effective representation to the people of the zone in the National Assembly next year because the earlier representatives of the zone didn’t perform satisfactorily.

“I want to go to the senate and represent my people well because the people there are not representing them effectively. I am a grassroots person very close to the people and know what I am saying”, he said.

Incidentally, Chief Uba is angling to wrestle the PDP ticket to represent the people of Anambra South Senatorial district on a seat presently occupied by his elder brother, Senator Andy Uba, who is the Senate Committee Chairman on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), thus giving the impression that all may not have been well within the Uba political empire in Anambra State.

Although, Uba declined further comments, advising instead to wait for the party’s National Assembly primary election in mid December, but one of his associates, who spoke to THISDAY on condition, of anonymity, dispelled rumours of any crack in the Uba filial relationship, adding, “it is just politics. Uba’s declaration, however, came on the heels of the release of the list of candidates of the party by the Chief Ejike Oguebego -led state executive, who won the November 29, PDP primaries in the state.

According to the list released by the state chapter of the party yesterday, and signed by the state Publicity Secretary, Nonso Okeke, the primaries election monitored by the INEC saw Silas Eze, Okechukwu Okeke, Timothy Egboka, Okwuchukwu Okeke, Godwin Eneghalu, Uche Obiajulu, and Felix Odumegwu emerging as the House of Assembly candidates of PDP in the 2015 general elections for Orumba South, North, Aguata 1, Aguata 2, Nnewi North, Nnewi South 1, and South 2 state constituencies.
