NDLEA Convicts 27 Drug Dealers, Confiscates 228 Cannabis In Akwa Ibom

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has convicted 27 persons including 24 males and three females for drug offences in 2014 at the Federal High Court, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State’s capital.

The convicts who were among the 401 suspects arrested in 2014 all received varied jail terms according to Punch report.

The NDLEA boss in Akwa Ibom, Mrs. Ruth Obi, made this disclosure in Uyo on Monday, January 12, 2015 .

Obi further disclosed that 228 litres of drugs were seized by the agency in 2014.

She said, “At the end of 2014, the command was able to put on record a total of 401 arrest of suspects comprising 353 males, 48 females, 35 abandoned exhibits and N138, 630 monetary exhibits. The total weight of exhibits seized was 157.373 kilogrammes and 22 litres of combine.

“The command during the year under review secured 27 convictions.

“A total of 163 drug users were referred for counseling. Those counseled included 142 males and 11 females.

“Also in the year 2014, this command carried out 130 drug preventive lectures in schools and advocacy talks from primary to tertiary institutions.”
