Teacher Sentenced To Life For Raping 11-Year-Old Pupil In Edo

A 35-year old teacher in Benin, the Edo state capital identified as Bright Asiruwa has received a life sentence from the Benin city high court for allegedly raping an 11-yer old minor identified to be a pupil in 2007.

Reports said that the prosecution Counsel, Nelson Okojie, had earlier told the Court that Asiruwa defiled the pupil at Osazuwa Primary School, Ehor, the administrative headquarters of Uhunmwode local government area of the state.

Following the charges and due court procedure, the presiding judge, Justice G. O. Imadegbelo, pronounced the convict guilty ‎of rape and gave her a life sentence as punishment for the crime.

While reacting to the development, the victim’s older brother Engineer Zini Braima lauded the court for allowing justice to prevail to the expectations of their family.

“As a matter of fact, I’m happy and I give glory to God that justice is done today by the Court, because from the beginning of that case, we have been praying the right justice,” he said.

The hearing on the matter started since 2008 at a High Court in Abudu and was subsequently moved to a Benin City High Court where the case was finally handled.
