[dropcap]I[/dropcap]f you are a shy person or natural born introvert, it can be difficult for you to be outgoing in most social gatherings. I know it because I’m a true introvert and any social event for me is a real challenge. I enjoy my quiet time and like being at home, but when I need to be an outgoing personality, I just fake it. How? Read on and find out a few useful tips on how to fake an outgoing personality and survive any social gathering without stress.
1. Say hello
For most people, it’s easy to say hello to any person they meet, but it can be really hard for shy people and introverts. When you’re trying to fake an outgoing personality, saying hello is a must. Even if you’ve never spoken to anyone first, you can do it now. Force yourself to make this big step. Say hello, give them your name, in case they don’t know it, ask their name and this will help you to start a small conversation.
2. Smile
Saying hello is not enough when you are trying to fake an outgoing personality, you should also smile at others. Smile can do wonders and can make you look friendlier and more approachable. Moreover, smile will make you look confident and help make new friends. I’m sure your smile is unique and beautiful, so feel free to give someone your genuine smile.
3. Imagine that others like you
Many times people that are shy and quiet feel uncomfortable at any social gathering. They usually think that they sound or look awkward and that others don’t like them. But it’s not actually true in most cases. Maybe someone doesn’t like you, but most of those around you enjoy your company. Before going to any event, imagine that people will love your look, jokes and everything you are going to talk about. This will help boost your confidence and reduce stress.
4. Try to sound outgoing
If you’re trying to appear outgoing, learn to sound outgoing. It’s not an easy task, but you have to do it. Perhaps you’ve noticed that outgoing people are more excited at social gatherings than those who are not. Try to put more excitement into your tone and you will certainly appear more outgoing. Just don’t overdo it.
5. Laugh along with others
Even if you don’t like the joke and you don’t think it’s funny, try to laugh along with others. You might be dreaming about how much you’d like to be at home reading your favorite book, but you are not at home and you need to appear outgoing now. So laugh, relax and have a lot of fun.
6. Give yourself some pep talk
I often use this tip before I go into a situation where I need to appear outgoing or before any important meeting at work. Giving yourself a pep talk is one of the most effective ways to boost your confidence and improve your mood. Tell yourself that you can easily do it. Remind yourself why people love you and enjoy your company. Think about all the positive things. Positivity always breeds positivity.
