A 67-year-old grandmother has been arrested for allowing her HIV-infested boyfriend to have carnal knowledge of her 7-year-old grand daughter thereby infecting her with the virus.
The woman of Daantji, Mpumalanga, South Africa, was arrested after her granddaughter was infected with HIV, Worldwide Weird News.
The grandmother, who was not named to protect the identity of her daughter’s daughter was charged and convicted for rape and conspiracy to commit rape.
Although she made a plea of innocence to the allegations leveled against her in the court, the jury maintained that she was guilty of the crime.
It was also gathered that the same boyfriend whose name was also not mentioned infected the the grandmother with HIV.
The woman claimed she had cured herself of the virus despite her poor health condition, a claim which the Magistrate, Andre Geldenhuys faulted during sentencing.
It was learnt that the grandmother’s disposition of lack of apology during her appearance in court enraged the judge at the Nelspruit Regional Court and prompted him to elongate her jail terms to 10 years.
