Adamawa APC Distances Self From Governor Nyako’s Son’s Gubernatorial Ambition

Must read

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Adamawa State Chapter, Saturday announced that 11 gubernatorial aspirants have already indicated interest to vie for the post of governor of the troubled state under the party’s platform.

Ironically, two family members of the incumbent governor, Murtala Nyako are featuring in the race therefore raising speculations that there may not be a free and fair party primary.

However, the APC State Working Committee (SWC) headed by Hon Binta Masi, also disassociated itself from the gubernatorial ambition of the first son of governor Murtala Nyako in person of Navy Commander Abdul Azizi Nyako (Rtd) and the other Nyako relative .

Commander Abdul Aziz Nyako is believed to be the convener of the APC in the state and have been under pressure by the youth wings of the party to contest for the party gubernatorial primaries but the party state working committee said that (Abdul’Aziz Nyako) is on his own adding that he was never anointed as the party gubernatorial candidate for 2015 general elections as being speculated.

The state party chairman, Mrs Binta Masi, made this known at an emergency briefing in the party secretariat in Yola, over the weekend.

“ For emphasis, the leader of the party in the state, Gov Murtala Nyako, has not at any point in time contemplated to sponsor or favour any individual not even his biological children for any elective post”, Masi said.

Masi said the clarification became necessary in view of rumours making the round in the state that the party has a particular candidate for the post.

“The state chapter of the party has not contemplated any such undemocratic practice.

“The rumour originated from mischief makers who are bent on painting the APC black in the eyes of its teaming supporters .

“The party wishes to state clearly that all aspiring politicians wishing to vie for the office of governor or any elective position are free to so express their intention,” Masi said.

She assured all aspirants under the party of equal opportunity “in line with the constitution of the party as stated in Article 20”.

She cautioned the people of Adamawa to be wary of attempt by those fanning ethno- religious sentiments for political gains.

The chairman said what the people needed was to have credible leaders irrespective of tribe and religion that would move the state forward.
