LAGOS, Nigeria — Oladotun Oladipo, a veteran journalist and online publisher, died after becoming ill at his Lagos office. He was 56.
Oladipo died on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, after falling ill at work in the Ogba area of the city, according to The Eagle Online, the publication he founded.
The newspaper reported that Oladipo had shown no apparent signs of illness earlier in the day. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead after what was reported to have been a heart attack.
Oladipo was a former politics editor at PUNCH newspapers and later became a prominent figure in Nigeria’s online publishing industry.
He also held leadership positions in professional and co-operative organisations.
He was a founding member and former president of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers.
At the time of his death, he was the founding president of the Innovative Media Partners Cooperative Multipurpose Society.
His death occurred a little more than a year after he escaped a tanker fire on Otedola Bridge with his wife and daughter.
His mechanic, Rotimi Olaleye, died in that incident, and Oladipo’s vehicle was destroyed.
Colleagues, friends and associates began issuing tributes after news of his death emerged.
