Some aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Akwa Ibom State on Friday, August 10, 2018, stated that the party will be more disunited under Senator Godswill Akpabio if he is made the leader of APC in the state as was announced by the party chairman, Adams Oshiomhole.

Adams Oshiomhole, the national chairman of the APC, made the announcement  on Wednesday, August 8, 2018, at a mega rally in Ikot Ekpene that formally received Godswill Akpabio, the immediate past governor of Akwa Ibom State, into the party.

Oshiomhole described Akpabio as an uncommon transformer for pulling a mammoth crowd to the Ikot Ekpene Stadium.

However, members of the APC in the state, under the aegis of Akwa Ibom Progressives Watch, at a press conference addressed by their chairman, Mr. Innocent Sylvanus, warned that many people who left the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the APC did so because of Akpabio’s “impunity” and cannot work again with him.

“It will be a disaster to allow Akpabio lead the party. We want the national leader and chairman of the party to know this,” Sylvanus said in a statement.

“We left PDP because of the kind of impunity Akpabio dished out to us. There is no guarantee that he has changed, so he will bring on the same kind of impunity he used which killed his former party.

“We are not happy over the seeming preference the national leadership of the party attempts to accord senator Godswill Akpabio.

“It is unnecessary. It will split the party. He cannot lead us,” Sylvanus added.

The group called on President Muhammadu Buhari to instruct the national chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, to convene the state caucus of the party for the purpose of choosing a state leader that will be accepted by all members.
