Akwa Ibom Gov’t Dismisses Report That Supreme Court Has Upheld Gov. Emmanuel’s Election

Must read

The attention of the Akwa Ibom State Government has been drawn to on-line publication where it was stated that the Supreme Court has upheld the election of Governor Udom Emmanuel. We wish to state here clearly and in the strongest terms that the report is false, misleading and utterly mischievous.

Governor Emmanuel is a strong believer in the sanctity of the rule of law, and has absolute confidence in our judiciary, which had informed his decision to  take his case to the Supreme Court after the ruling of the Appellate Court, where the massive victory the good people of Akwa Ibom State had given him last April 11, was nullified.

The Supreme Court has not yet met to make a final determination on the case, and it is the height of mischief and irresponsibility for any media platform to publish such falsehood.

We know there are no ethical boundaries that the people on the other side of the political divide and its media enablers would not cross, but politics should have some lines of decency and the institution of the judiciary as the hope of the common man should be respected and not dragged in the mud, just to score cheap political points.

It bears repeating here, that the Supreme Court has not yet met and no judgment therefore, has been made. Members of the public should dismiss the said report for what it is: an act of desperation by people who have little respect for our judiciary and the revered Justices of the Supreme Court.

Signed:

Ekerete Udoh

Chief Press Secretary to Governor Udom Emmanuel
