Domestic violence in Nigeria is a problem as in many parts of Africa. There is a deep cultural belief in Nigeria that it is socially acceptable to hit a woman to discipline a spouse. It is indeed ‘the secret sin’. It’s happening in so many families and most of the time, women are the victims and they are forced to keep quiet by society’s shaming.
It is not a joke and women are dying all over the world because some people still believe that it is something that can be trivialized. People continue to stay with domestic partners for fear of societal reproach and judgment. We are the society and we should stop providing an environment which condones remaining with an abusive partner.

News about Mrs Victoria Awosanya who was brutally beaten up by her husband, one of APC Chieftain Bashorun Bayo Awosanya on sunday, April 20, 2014 at their house in Sagamu, Ogun state after an heated argument has made the headlines for a couple of days.
After the incident, the said husband went into hiding for fear of being exposed. due to enormous pressure mounted on him by the Police, he was forced to report himself to Sagamu Divisional Police Officer, CSP Lawal Adebowale who saw to his arrest.
The accused confessed to the crimes leveled against him and was transferred to the Department of Criminal Investigation for further investigations and necessary preparations to be put in place to take the matter to court.
